We have a couple of steers who have developed quite extensive warts on and around their head and neck. After researching on www there seems that little can be done. We have separated them from the rest of the herd. Any advice?

Warts

I asked this question of some international Dexter breeders and this is the answer they came back with: ……………………………………………………………………. Warts are contagious and no there is no good way to treat them. There are a lot of theories. Smashing them with a pair of pliers may make them run their course quicker but probably not worth it. Not all Dexters will get them. They usually get them when young usually when they are just starting to mature. Once the warts run their course the animal will never get them again ……………………………………………………………………. One of our girls had a wart appear on the top of her eyelid as she neared her 2nd birthday. We watched it but let it runs its course as it wasn’t impairing her vision or the closing of her eye. About 6 months later it was gone. She was the only Dexter we have had with warts. No one before or since then has had them *touch wood* ……………………………………………………………………. Hope this helps a little. I know I have learned something new today
