I am interested in exploring opportunities for setting up a Dexter meat supply chain between members.
Rather than just sell excess stock at the Sale Yards would it be practical to organise to have animals slaughtered and the meat packed and distributed to anyone interested.

You can buy a Dexter Steak from Preston Gourmet Produce in Tasmania!! Check out the link from our website www.dexterbeef.com.au we even featured in the Cradle Coast Pantry cookbook with recipes featuring Dexter Beef.
We have tried the co-operative marketing between breeders and someone always thinks hey they are making more than me. It does not work!! The problem is getting consistency of product from one breeder to another.
It is a great thought, but sadly the big green giant gets in the way. Our Association should be looking at better ways to create marketing opportunities promoting the commercial side of our breed.
Maybe you can add your ideas

Thank you for your feedback on this topic. I acknowledge your comments on past failed attempts and concede that there are various issues that need to be addressed. But I am still interested in the idea of coordinating bulk purchasing of meat between breeders as a means of giving more people an opportunity to get some Dexter meat into their Freezer. We are starting to workshop the idea in our Manning Valley Group and will let you know how we are going. I would also like to congratulate you on your marketing initiative. It is an attractive option. Regards, Ron Brown
